Hands…such a struggle! How many times did you draw a half or a full body character, and then when it was time to draw the hands (which was obviously the last thing you were going to draw to avoid the problem for as long as you could) you were just giving up at them drastically deciding at the last minute to hide them behind the back or drawing long sleeves to cover them all.
The structure of hands, always change depending on their position, making it even harder to learn how to draw them. The best way to get better at it, is definitely looking at your own hands. These are indeed the best reference to look at, to make sure that you learn properly how to draw them. You can also try to go on Pinterest from you phone (or ask your mum to let you use it from hers) and look for “manga hands reference” to have more specific hands positions and different style you could use for inspiration.
Also, don’t forget to be careful that your hands are proportioned with the body! Otherwise, you might have a a girl with a perfect hand… but huge! So, here’s another tip to make sure that the proportions of the hands are right: put the bottom of your hand (just before your wrist) on your chin, and stretch it up on your face. Now, touch your face with the tip of your fingers. You are touching your hairline, aren’t you? 😊
That means that your hand will be as big as your face from the chin to the top of your forehead.
